How the “NOIR is the Black” Collection Was Born
Why the PURE Design Collection?
For over 15 years, I designed for other brands like Nivada and Pineda Covalin in Mexico. This experience taught me to carefully listen to what my clients believed their customers wanted, and to create designs that perfectly matched those criteria. It was a rewarding process, especially when the brands saw success and returned for more. However, it also meant that my personality as a designer disappeared. I was designing what others wanted, not what I truly loved. That’s why I decided to create my own jewelry—pieces that reflect my style, my DNA, with a full creative freedom. I wanted to reclaim control over every aspect of the design process: the materials, the shapes, the textures, the colors, the ergonomics, the sustainability, and every small detail. After 15 years of designing for others, it was time to design for my own brand.
What Do I Love?
Minimalist and Futurist Style
- I’m drawn to clean and uniform surfaces, smooth curves, and regular patterns. I aim for simplicity, with as few details as possible. The matte black resin finish in this collection, for example, gives the elegant aesthetic I like.
Practicality
- I’ve carefully considered every aspect to make my jewelry practical, comfortable, and safe. The pieces are stainless, resistant to creams and perfumes, and biocompatible. They’re lightweight, flexible, and come in personalized sizes. And safer because nobody steals design (only precious metals or stones). What truly matters is the freedom to express yourself authentically through the jewelry you wear.
Innovative and High-Tech Processes
- The precision of 3D printing plays a crucial role in the quality of my designs. A single ring, for instance, is digitally sliced into around 700 layers, each just 0.05 mm thick—about the width of a human hair.
- The nature of the 3D print process, allows me to create new shapes and designs that would be impossible to make using traditional jewelry techniques.
- Unique Engraving. Every PURE Design piece features the word “PURE” meticulously engraved with a specialized laser. Unlike traditional methods, this laser doesn’t remove material—it transforms the resin’s color, resulting in stunning high-definition engravings with incredible depth and precision.
Creating Something That Doesn’t Exist
I’ve always sought to create something different—whether by using materials typically found in architecture for instance and using their properties for jewelry, or by applying industrial processes to craft rings and bracelets. In this collection, I took 3D printing, a technique usually reserved for creating the master piece to make molds. I used a different and biocompatible resin to print final pieces directly.
Professionals often tell me they’re not used to doing what I ask, but that’s part of the challenge. I have to reinvent almost everything, and the reward is offering my clients something truly unique—pieces they won’t find anywhere else. Today, I’m proud to say that PURE Design is the first brand in Mexico to create jewelry collections using direct 3D printing.
As Friendly as Possible
Many clients have shared their struggles with skin sensitivities caused by metals like sterling silver or nickel, which limit their jewelry options. That’s why I use biocompatible resin, ensuring my pieces are gentle on your skin. We work with the only resin that has the biocompatibility certification, so you can wear your jewelry with confidence.
Sustainability
The planet is not at its best, and any effort to help is a step in the right direction. Everyone can contribute at their own level. At PURE Design, our packaging is made from organic material (PLA). Polylactic Acid is derived from fermented plant starch—corn, cassava, sugarcane, or sugar beet pulp. PLA is biodegradable.
Exclusivity
No physical stores—PURE Design is available only online and through exclusive showcases. You can purchase our pieces only if you’ve heard about PURE Design through “bouche-à-oreille”, discovered our Instagram or website, read about us in a fashion or design magazine, or if you were personally invited to a private showcase or an exclusive presentation.
We aim to create a design-driven community where those who appreciate PURE Design’s aesthetic can explore our collections and share their passion.
Men’s Collection
For this collection, I wanted to create sophisticated and refined cufflinks—something truly different from what is currently available. Elegant, distinctive, and unconventional, yet not bold or excessively extravagant.
For the next collection, I want to expand our men’s jewelry offerings. Today, most men hesitate to wear extravagant jewelry—no bold primary colors, just discreet pieces, but want to be seen. There is great potential in redefining men’s accessories beyond watches. Modern men no longer want to be strictly formal at work or elsewhere but prefer accessories that make them feel confident and stylish.
The challenge for the next collection will be to design new types of jewelry for men, meant to be worn differently, more casual, comfortable, and effortlessly stylish, and of course always in the PURE Design’s minimalist and refined aesthetic.
